Buckets and Spades - Dongtang beach, Jomtien.

How about a day on the beach? After all that's what Pattaya is well known for - relaxing beaches. Well we have our very own gay beach over at Jomtien, just 10 minutes ride away on the Baht Bus. "What's a Baht Bus" I hear you say, and "Where can I get one?" Well don't worry, our hosts will show you the ropes. We meet you at about 10 am (or any time really to suit yourself), and take you to the nearest bus. Then off to the beach and we help you with all the knots and wrinkles. We show you just exactly where it is. We help you find a nice concession, where you can sit down in a deckchair and relax. The concessionaires will bring you a drink (and yes, the first drink again is on us).

Then its time for some serious relaxing. Snooze and watch the world go by. You will be offered doughnuts, fried food, ice cream, all manner of clothing and souvenirs, without even getting out your seat. Just to make this day even better for you we have included a complimentary 30 minute leg massage. Merely stop a boy you like the look of and ask him for a massage. They all wear blue coats, so you can tell the genuine ones. We will pay for 30 minutes. Should you prefer a full body massage, laying on a towel at the top of the beach - 250B will get you this. The massage boy might expect a small tip if he does a good job, but 20B normally suffices. If you get hungry, the concessionaire will bring you a menu and you can order food. It might be nice to ask your host if he would like to join you in a snack.

When you have had your fill of food, sun and lazing, we will escort you back to your hotel room and make sure you are safely home again. What better way than to get to know the beach routine, than by taking your own guide with you!

And what does this cost? You get all this - Baht bus to the beach, free drink when you arrive, free leg massage and the services of a guide all day for just 2450 B! You can't beat the value for that amount of knowledge.

Pachyderm and packed lunch - a Day trip to the famous Elephant Village

This is an experience not to be missed!

Come and see the famous Elephant Village just outside Pattaya.

For the best value package and the best experience, we suggest the Combination Trek. This lasts about three and half-hours and begins with a one hour elephant trek. Climb aboard the special double seat - a nice position to watch the mahout, the elephant boy lead his animal around the park. These boys live and sleep with their beasts, and build up a very special bond with them. There is even a part of the trek where the animal is lead through a lake. Don't worry - you probably won't get wet!

You are dropped off by the Silk House, a place where you get to learn the story of Thai silk. Watch how the tiny silk worms are bred, and produce their valuable cocoons. Then how the material is cleaned, spun and woven into the fine Thai silks we know and admire.

Your next treat is a 30-minute jungle walk where you can meet the friendly gibbons. They sometimes will "adopt" a tour member and become great friends as long as you are going the way they want you to!

Your next treat is 30 minutes of rafting across a nearby lake. This is followed by an Ox-cart ride, back to the start, where the trip concludes with a buffet lunch or dinner. This trek takes place twice daily at 10.30 and 16.00 hrs. If you opt for the 10.30 trek (our normal suggestion) we need to pick you up at 9.30 am. Depending which hotel you are staying at. The trek which starts at 16.00 is available if you prefer leaving you with the day free. In this case we pick you up at 15.00.

Your host will accompany you on this trek and spend the day with you to make sure you get the most out of the experience.

The cost of this trek with air conditioned car to and from the Village, a small meal, a personal guide with you to help you all the way, and all admissions is 7,950 Baht.

Sacred to secular – Wats to Wine!

Wat Yansangvararam, Viharasien, the Buddha Image of Khao Chi Chan and Silverlake Vineyard

A truly interesting day out. We leave Pattaya at about 10 am and go to the spectacular Wat Yansangvararam. This is a collection of more than a dozen temples, in an idyllic lake setting. The feeling of peace and calm here is remarkable.

You can feed the fish and watch the frenzy take place to get the food and then return to the tranquility of the surroundings. Walk around the different style of temples and get a sense of the calm the monks must feel.

A short detour takes you to the nearby hill, where you can climb the steps and see the replica of Buddha’s footprint. You can marvel at the gilt work and catch your breath while you admire the view.

From here we take you to Viharasien. This spectacular museum was built to house a collection of over 300 antiques given by the Chinese government to Thailand. It includes a number of bronze statues, and possibly the only original Warriors from the Terracotta army at Xiang, ever permanently displayed outside China. This is another wonderful building and the peace and friendliness of the staff is a welcome change. This treasure deserves a second visit. You can also look at the gilded Buddha, and see a painted short version of his story. They also have occasional exhibitions – while I was last there it included a wonderful exhibition of Thai art.

Not far away is the Buddha Mountain, where a laser was used to project the figure of Buddha onto a hillside and this was then carved into the mountain and  inlaid with gilded metal. The scale of this project is monumental, and the landscape can only be Thai!

Finally the tour takes us to Silverlake vineyard, where you can relax in more secular surroundings, sample their food and grape juice and perhaps buy a bottle of great Thai wine. This makes a fine end to a truly interesting day.

The cost of this fine package, including airconditioned car and driver, host and entrance to the various places is 3950B. This does not include food at the Silverlake vineyard or a discretionary tip to your host or driver.

Nong Nooch Gardens

Our final trip is possibly the best. yes we did save the best to last. Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens is World Famous for it's orchids and for its formal gardens. Your trip starts with a pick up from your hotel in an air-conditioned car. Your host will greet you and the driver will take you about 40 minutes South to the Gardens. There's so much there. From amazing orchids, water gardens, fountains and ponds, walkways high above everything and most impressively the formal French Garden. Take your time to savour this paradise of planting. Then later in the afternoon, you can watch a cultural show and an elephant show. Words fail in trying to describe this amazing package, so I'll just let the pictures do the talking. If I had to choose one day out to amaze me, this would be the one.

The cost of this package, with car and driver, host, and all admissions is just 6,500B. Possibly the best money you will spend here!
